Leading insurance firm announces high profile recruits across a number of specialist lines
Leading insurance law firm, Plexus Law, has made two significant lateral team hires, totalling 17 lawyers and 10 support staff, to launch new offices in Taunton and Chelmsford, expanding its network in the South West and South East respectively. The expansion comes just months after the firm secured a £15m minority investment from Origin Equity LLP, to support its growth and innovation plans; and the appointment of Fiona Scott to the position of CEO. Fiona joined Plexus in December from Kennedys where she sat on the Board for four years as Global Finance Director.
All 27 of the new recruits join from Kennedys. Partner Sarah Cornish has joined to head up the firm’s Financial Lines offering in the newly opened Taunton office. Sarah has advised on Professional Indemnity claims, across a broad range of professions, for the last 30 years, and played a key role in the development of significant Professional Indemnity, D&O and Financial Lines teams at both Kennedy’s and, prior to that, RPC. She is joined by a team of Professional Indemnity and Financial Lines specialists, including Partners Andrew Crocombe, Simon Combe and Rob Wotherspoon, as well as two Associates and a Consultant.
Andrew Caplan has been appointed to head up the Liability practice and starts next week. Andrew specialises in a wide range of insurance claims predominantly personal injury, abuse and crisis management. He has over 20 years’ experience working with a variety of insurers on their Large Loss and Catastrophic Injury panels. He is joined by Partners Kate Prestidge, Angela Hanmore, Thom Lumley and Ron Ruston as well as three Solicitors and four Associates. The Chelmsford office will focus on a range of sectors and disciplines within the Casualty space, in addition to Abuse and Crisis Management.
Commenting on the appointments, Fiona Scott, CEO of Plexus Law said, “We are thrilled to have such a talented team of people joining us. We operate in a highly competitive market and finding the right talent forms a major part of our growth strategy.
We’re seeing increased demand, particularly from our London market and reinsurer clients, for claims handling and litigation expertise in specialist areas such as financial lines, and liability work so it’s the right time for us to strengthen our expertise and service offering to clients. The experience that Sarah, Andrew and their teams bring perfectly complements the areas that we have identified as significant growth opportunities, and we know that they will be an enormous asset to the firm. These appointments also strengthen our regional presence and support the growth of our UK-wide network of offices.”
The team hires follow several other major Partner appointments made by Plexus Law over the course of the past year. These include: Phil D’Netto, Catharine Busby and Stuart Clemson from DWF; Gordon Walker and Nadia Nahapiet from Clyde and Co. and Paul Spibey from Mills & Reeve.
