“In order to establish Casualty claims trends in the UK market, the Claims Portal Data (for lower value claims) and the overall CRU data has been interrogated in respect of EL and PL cases.
In respect of lower value Fast Track (below £25k) Portal claims then EL, PL and Disease claims have reduced over the past 12 months by approximately 5%.
On the contrary however, CRU data (for all personal injury claims irrespective of value) demonstrate that:
- EL claims have increased over the past 2 years by 23%
- PL claims have decreased over the past 2 years by 11%
There is however, a huge amount of uncertainty in the Personal Injury arena at present due to the Civil Liability Act 2018 and the timescales for when the Whiplash reforms will be commenced. This significant shift in the claims market will impact Claimant Solicitors’ behaviours and thus the volumes of casualty claims could increase as firms exit the PI motor market.
Within this document we have also set out other claims inflationary factors that could impact the insurance market in the future.”
